Of all the truths in Scripture, few are as simple and yet as life-changing as this one: God loves you. Not because of what you've done, not because of your performance or your potential, but because of who He is. This truth has the power to resolve your deepest fears, heal your oldest wounds, and give you an identity that nothing in this world can take away.
God's absolutes are not restrictions designed to hold you back. They are the bedrock of life itself, the stable foundation that makes everything else possible. Just like gravity makes it possible to walk, run, and breathe, God's absolutes make it possible to truly live.
When you build your life on God's Word, the storms of life lose their power to destroy you. When you ignore His absolutes, you become vulnerable to fear, confusion, and the lies of the enemy.
As Jesus said, those who build on the rock can withstand anything. Those who build on sand cannot.
The foundational verse for this truth comes from 1 John 4:10:
"This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins." - 1 John 4:10
God has considered you worth saving. Worth sending His Son to die on a cross to redeem, ransom, restore, and resurrect to new life. You. Personally. Individually.
This has nothing to do with your performance. Romans 3:10 and 12 make it clear:
"There is no one righteous, not even one... there is no one who does good, not even one." - Romans 3:10, 12
God's love for you has nothing to do with your usefulness, your intellect, your talents, or your track record. He sees you exactly as you are, and He loves you.
Almost everyone, regardless of their background or status, carries some form of unresolved wounds related to their earthly Father. These wounds distort how we see God the Father and make it difficult to receive His love.
Jesus addressed this directly in Mark 2:17:
"Those who are strong and well have no need of a physician. But those who are weak and sick, I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners who recognize their sin and humbly seek forgiveness." - Mark 2:17
The danger is that many people are deeply wounded and don't realize it. The enemy has convinced them they are fine. But unresolved identity wounds don't disappear on their own. They grow.
One of the most important insights here is this: you need to know who you are before you can know what to do.
You can be busy, successful, and even doing good things for God while still having your identity completely unresolved. God's love doesn't connect with your purpose first. It connects with your being, with who you are as His child.
When your identity is rooted in being a child of God, His love can safely fuel your purpose without you self-destructing. Many leaders and ministers have gone off course precisely because they skipped this step.
Hollywood, culture, and celebrity relationships offer a version of love that is really just lust, transaction, or companionship. These things are not love. They are substitutes.
No amount of money, fame, beauty, or charm can create true love apart from God. What often passes for love in the world is really a barter system, a series of exchanges that collapses the moment one party feels they are getting less than they give.
God designed marriage, friendship, and family to operate on true love. And true love requires God to be in the room.
Jesus, described in Hebrews 1:3 as the sole expression of the glory of God and the perfect imprint of God's nature, said this in John 15:12:
"This is my commandment, that you love and unselfishly seek the best for one another, just as I have loved you." - John 15:12
True love is not passive. It is not without boundaries. Love gives commands. Love has standards. And love qualifies its relationships. Jesus said in verse 14: "You are my friends if you keep on doing the things which I command you to do."
When people are void of God's love, a vacuum forms. That vacuum is dark, chaotic, and desperate to be filled. People without God's love often loathe themselves, and people who hate themselves tend to hate others.
Hatred, violence, self-destruction, and broken relationships are not random. They are symptoms of a love deficit. We were all made for the Father's presence, and He is love.
Hating people is hating the image of God. Tormented people live lives of accusation and worthlessness because they have never received the love that was always available to them.
One of the most powerful effects of receiving God's love is the eviction of fear. This is not a metaphor. It is a biblical absolute.
"There is no fear in love. Dread does not exist. But full-grown, complete, perfect love turns fear out of the doors and expels every trace of terror. For fear brings with it the thought of punishment, and so he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love, is not yet grown into love's complete perfection." - 1 John 4:18
If you are struggling with anxiety, worry, fear about the future, or fear of punishment, this verse is not a condemnation. It is an invitation. You simply have more room for God's love. Every moment of fear is an opportunity to open your heart wider to Him.
No one can receive God's love on your behalf. Not a parent, not a priest, not a pastor. Only you can open your heart and receive it.
Parents can train and teach their children. But every person must one day make the personal decision to welcome God's love into their own heart. It is that intimate. It is that individual.
As Jeremiah 31:3 says:
"The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: 'I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.'" - Jeremiah 31:3
And Romans 5:8 seals it:
"But God shows and clearly proves His own love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ the Messiah died for us." - Romans 5:8
God was never waiting for you to get your act together. He has always been waiting to help you, lift you, and love you exactly where you are.
The greatest title you will ever carry is not your job title, your net worth, or your reputation. It is this: child of God.
"See what kind of love the Father has given us. We are called God's children, and that is what we are. For this reason, the world does not recognize us, because it did not recognize Him either." - 1 John 3:1
The world may not recognize this truth. But that does not make it any less real. Before planets existed, before gravity and time, there was love. Because God is love. And He has always been love toward you.
This week, your challenge is simple but profound: meditate on the truth that God loves you. Not as a concept, but as a personal reality directed at you specifically.
Print out or write down one of the scriptures from this post, Jeremiah 31:3, Romans 5:8, or 1 John 4:18, and place it somewhere you will see it every day. Read it out loud. Let it sink past your mind and into your heart. Every time fear or self-doubt rises up, use it as a reminder that you simply have more room for God's love.
Ask yourself these questions as you reflect this week:
God loves you. That is not a feeling. It is an absolute. And it changes everything.
