YOU SAID WHAT?

Once upon a time, a certain man had great gifts and strength because the Spirit of The Lord was with him.  He did amazing things that were humanly impossible.  Then one day, he had a conversation and said some things that were disloyal to the Holy Spirit.  When he woke up the next day, he suddenly went from being the hero of the land to the most ridiculed and mocked slave of his day.  He went from being a winner to a failure overnight.

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit.  The Bible is full of stories like Samson.  Ephesians 4:29-30 basically says that we should let no worthless talk ever come out of our mouth.  Our words should be good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others.  The words we speak are to never, ever grieve or sadden the Holy Spirit.

You mean I can make God sad?  How?  Ephesians 4:30 makes it clear that disloyal words that misrepresent the character of God offend the Holy Spirit.  He withdraws from worthless, corrupt talk.  Psalm 19:14 says, "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord."  God doesn't just hear your words; He sees them.

Any words that wound the influence of someone not present are disloyal words.  Disloyalty is unholy.  Disloyalty corrupts from the inside out.  Marriages and family usually rot because of disloyalty and a lack of faith.  Love cannot remain where there is no faith or loyalty.  Holy Spirit withdraws from accusatory and unflattering conversation.

Save yourself today and be delivered from a terrible snare (Proverbs 6:3).  Repent of offensive and corrupt words.  If your spiritual pulse reveals you have no joy, then you know that Holy Spirit has left the room.  Don't be like King Saul, who didn't even realize the Holy Spirit had left him.  Humble yourself.  Change your way of thinking about your words, and prosper in the presence of The Lord of lords.

Let's pray the Word:

Forgive me Lord for any corrupt communication that has come out of my mouth.  I dedicate myself to loyal, encouraging conversation that pleases You Holy Spirit.  May my thoughts and words attract Your attention Father God, and cause Your blessings to chase me down.  Amen, so be it!
